Description
Work from the series “Elementa”
In addition to the classical elements, earth, water, fire, air and gas (space), in many ancient eastern concepts of self there are an additional two: consciousness (thought itself) and the element of spirit. Each of us is comprised of all seven elements. Further to this, since ancient times, philosophers have suggested that love is an elemental force of nature, like gravity or electromagnetism. The power that drives the stars, they say, is the same force that compels the human heart.
Exploring these concepts the Artist continues to utilise colour, light, scale, space, texture and emotion to sustain her practice.
High as hope, borrows its title from the fourth studio album by Florence and the machine, released in June 2018.
Several things contributed to this painting: The Artist and her family ran from the tsunami in 2004 and thankfully all survived; childhood memories of a very steep climb down cliffs to fish with her father at Hopes Nose in Devon and finally the artists eternal (antidotal) quest for order over chaos, based on her childhood experiences.
The painting is strung ready to hang.
